James J. Munro, 95, of Janesville passed away Friday, August 22, 2014 at Golden Living Center in Fort Atkinson. James was born on February 27, 1919 in Alness-Ross Shire, Scotland, the son of Duncan and Rachel (Stone) Munro. The family came to the United States and settled in Janesville when Jim was 3 years old. He attended Janesville schools graduated from Janesville high School in 1938. He enlisted in the Army on October 1, 1940 and served with the Red Arrow Division spending time in Central Europe including Belgium, France and at Normandy. He was discharged October 11, 1945. James married Mildred Martsolf on May 13, 1943. He was formerly employed as a machinist by Borg Corporation until 1970 and then by Janesville Auto Transport Company until he retired in 1986. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Moose Lodge # 197, the Teamsters Union and was the longest living member of Janesville Masonic Lodge # 55. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping woodworking, the Packers but above all spending time with his family, especially at family gatherings.
Jim is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mildred, three children, Sally (Ron) King, Larry (Mary) Munro, James “Bud” Munro, five grandchildren, Jennifer (James) Sauter, Tracy Penny (Joe Freier) Chris Munro, Nick Munro, Aften (Matt) Kinserdahl, seven great-grandchildren, Charlie Sauter, Courtney Sauter, Landon Munro, Brian Kinserdahl, Adam Kinserdahl, Aiden Wellnitz, Piper Kinserdahl as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Alex Munro, three sisters, Helen Horkey, Martha Morgan, Margaret Weis and one brother, Tom Munro.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at First Lutheran Church, 612 North Randall Avenue, Janesville. Pastor Naomi Garber will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church. Military rites will be performed by Kienow-Hilt V.F.W. Post # 1621. Henke-Clarson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
